It is named after Charles de Gaulle (1890–1970), leader of the Free French Forces and founder of the French Fifth Republic, as well as the President of France from 1959 to 1969. The airport is located within portions of several communes, to the northeast of Paris. The airport serves as the principal hub for Air France as well as a European hub for Delta Air Lines. In 2013, the airport handled 62,052,917 passengers and 497,763 aircraft movements,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Statistiques annuelles )〕 making it the world's eighth-busiest airport and Europe's second-busiest airport (after London Heathrow) in terms of passengers served.
